At General Johnnie Wilson Middle School (GJW), we inspire, challenge, and empower students through the love of learning through the transition from concrete to more abstract thought. Serving students in grades 6–8, we promote high expectations while working together with parents and the community to develop students to their full potential.

WHO IS GENERAL JOHNNIE E. WILSON?
General Johnnie Wilson Middle School is named in honor of Lorain's own retired United States Army four-star general. Johnnie E. Wilson grew up in Lorain with his 11 brothers and sisters and his father worked for the local steel mill. General Wilson entered the Army in 1961 as an enlisted soldier and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant; he then attended Officer Candidate School (OCS). General Wilson served with distinction at every level of command. Wilson spent a year in South Vietnam where he served as Commander of Company C, 173rd Support Battalion (Airborne). General Wilson held a wide variety of important command and staff positions culminating in his assignment as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command (1996-99). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master of Science degree in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
General Wilson's award and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Special Forces Tab, and a Master Parachutist Badge.
General Wilson visits the school often to offer support and inspiration to our scholars.
